Case
Study
One
of our clients in the travel industry approached us
about upgrading their computers, installing a network
and allowing all his employees to access
internet and e-mail. Five of the 13 computers were currently connected using
a peer-to-peer network in a 10Mbps coaxial cable configuration. Five more
PCs were connected to each other in a 10Mbps Ethernet network using a hub
and category 5 cabling. Three PCs were stand-alone.
Our client arranged with a local telecommunications
provider to have an ADSL (asynchronous digital subscriber
line) internet connection installed.
SilverData started
planning the upgrades of the PCs first and supplied,
installed and configured some of the PCs with a new
network cards. We then installed
the new cabling, including patch panels and switches, in the premises after
hours so as not to disrupt business operations. We ensured that cabling
was not visible and that it blended in the with office
decor. We then connected
and configured all PCs to be part of the new work group that we had created.
On the same day that the telephone company provided
the ADSL line and the
account was enabled, we attended the customer site to install an ADSL
router to enable
the sharing of the connection by all computers on the network. After
hours on the same day we configured the PCs to use
the new ADSL connection for
internet and e-mail access.
